iMac as monitor for laptop using display port cable, will usb ports on monitor work?

So i can make an imac function as an external monitor by using a display port to display port cable. i would like to know if the usb ports on the imac will also function for a connected laptop?

Most other monitors have extra usb ports and would be cool if they worked on the imac as an external monitor for a laptop .

You can only use the 27" iMac as external display.

About using the USB ports on the Mac: unlikely, as the Mac is still running.
