I have a 24 and 27 iMac.

I would like to use the 24 as a second monitor.

Specific cable?
Any outside applications necessary?

How to?

24 to 27

So, with a male to male cable, I could connect the 24 to the 27, and use the 27 as a second monitor?

However, I definitely could not use the 24 as the second monitor?

I use ScreenRecycler, it works well.

Alternatively, sell your 24" iMac and get a 2nd display. I was shocked that I was able to sell my 24" Mid-2007 2.4Ghz iMac for $850 on Craiglist only a couple weeks ago! It always amazes me how well macs hold their value!

You can't directly connect the 27" iMac to the 24" unit, but you can run a program such as screenrecycler which does something similar, but is slower.

connecting

You say I cannot connect the 24 to the 27?

I am talking about a physical connection. As I understand it, the Belkin VGI to mini display cable would connect them?

How? The 24" iMac has no input.

input

Well, my 24 mac is connected to a second monitor now.
So, it does have a connection place.

I presume I would just get one of those Belkin male to male cables and stick it in the back of both the 24 and 27.

Of course, that is only my logic.

The video port on the 27" iMac is an input and an output.

Do this.
Buy 2 screens and an ipad

think i got it

General, I think I got it.

My 24 is 2009, and 27 is 2010.

So, it's possible for me to connect the 24 and 27, work on the 24, and use the 27 as the second monitor.

Is that about the solution with the least hassle?

What video output does the 24" have? If it's 2009 model, then it should have Mini DisplayPort and you will only need a mDP to mDP cable. If it's something else, then you need a bunch of expensive adapters
