Im a student and i was wondering if i could buy an imac for home use(video editing and live streaming) and an iPad for mobile use without having to get a macbook pro????:apple::apple::apple:

The iPad is the single worst piece of hardware Apple has made if you ask me.

They present it as a multi-media platform, yet it has no support for USB or cd-dvd loading; nor does it have the ability to multitask.
They present it as the best internet experience on the market, yet it has no support for flash.

Honestly, there's a reason why tablets have been largly unsuccessful in the tech world. They're too big to put in your pocket, and not powerful enough to replace a dedicated laptop.

I'd simply just get a macbook pro.

I sold my MBP when I bought my i5 iMac recently to recoup some of the cost. I also have a new iPod Touch. I'm considering the iPad as an "in-between" device, but will probably wait until Rev B so some of the kinks get worked out and there are more apps when I'm ready to buy.

I think this will work for you.

Why not wait until they are relesed, go to your nearest Apple store and try one out. I'm thinking along the same lines as you, ditch my old PB G4 and go the tablet route for mobile use.

nor does it have the ability to multitask.

Yes it does, this oft repeated 'fact' is bull. Apple just doesn't allow 3rd party apps to leverage this ability. You can check your emails whilst having music play in the background quite happily.

When I say multitask, I mean having a complete gui with multiple windows open so you can see/do multiple things at once. You know, something you'd expect from an actual multi-media monster.

Apple made a big mistake by using the same iPhone OS. Their iPad is in all sense, an iPhone with 2.6x the resolution that doesn't make calls.

I understand the want, but is there really a need for this in a mobile device? I do multitasking at home/work. On the road, I'm usually fine with using a single app at a time (so long as I can listen to music at the same time).

Also, let me correct your sentence:

Today the iPad is in all sense, an iPhone with 2.6x the resolution that doesn't make calls. In six months time it will be highly differentiated with apps that just wouldn't work on an iPhone and in all likelihood will be able to utilize VOIP to make calls (which I can do on my iPod using wi-fi today).

im going into marketing and one thing i like about the ipad is that is has iwork for presentations which is essential in marketing...i think... and i hear the typing in landscape is about as big as a regular keyboard... so notes might not be that much of an issue:apple::apple::apple::apple:
