You really need to give some information as to what you are going to be using the computer for.

But to answer your question, the GTX 260 is comparable to the desktop 4870. The 4850 in the iMac is a mobile version, so the 260 will be considerably faster.

but the nvidia 260 is faster, but i dont think the whole package is a good replace option for the iMac 27"i7 , if you want to play sometimes games on it , you want better not just a little more
.. the alienware further down would be a better option offering a i7 too, but more important 6gb ddr3 ram and ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics with 1024MB video memory(gddr5 @1200mhz) and DirectX 11(direct x11 is a must for games nowadays, we live in 2010 not in 2005 any more )you dont want to lower graphic settings in games , you want to play them in high res with all features and you want performance

That ASUS only has better GPU and possibility to upgrade/add GPU(s). If you're not a gamer don't waste your money on that because you will never take advantage of it. Moreover, think about building one yourself as I think you can build one for ~800$ with same specs

Alienware computers are complete rip off, don't recommend them to anyone! Build your own gaming pc for much less

Shudder, Alienware. Back in '06 (when I was a Windows fanboy) I spent 4K on a gaming rig from Alienware. They took 4 months to even ship it, all the while giving me worthless excuses! Then when it got here, it wouldn't boot up! I had to open up the case and plug in the video card power plug, which they had forgotten to do. Once it started working, I would get random freezes after a few hours of use. I returned it, and they had the gall to charge me a 14% ($500!!) restocking fee. I took the money I got back, and bought a Macbook Pro, and have been with Macs since.

Your thread title says nothing about your questions and concerns. It's against forum rules to have one word titles, especially just saying, "Hello".

Back to the situation. The iMac is on backorder for 3 weeks now. If you need a computer, buy something else if you can't wait. The iMac is currently the best AIO available from any manufacturer spec wise and design. If you are that much on the fence about an iMac or a PC then buy the PC, because it sounds like you have no intention of running Mac OS X so it would be a real waste to just use it as a pretty Windows machine.

Not sure I understand you. I thought I had more than one word.
My main concer on the imac is all the problems I am reading about.
I can get the imac 21.5 c2d for about the cost of the asus.
But do not know if I want to take a hit in performance.

You still haven't told us what's your usage. Do you play games? If so what kind of games? Any pro apps? Remember that you need display and other accessories for that ASUS too.

I do some gaming (Medal of Honor) currently.
I figured another 300 for the samsung 23" LED at Best Buy.
So figure arounf 1400.00 US.

Wonder if I would get the same detail in the game between the two or If I got the ATI 4850.

How demanding Medal of Honor is? If you're satisfied with medium graphics and OK FPS then iMac is okay but if you want to have all maxed out and +60 FPS, then PC will win. ASUS will do better in gaming but if that isn't your main task, then iMac might be a better choice. As I said above, think about building one yourself (or ask your friend etc) as you'll easily save 300$ and you can choose the components yourself (AMD offers good quads for low price).

i did only recomend that one because it was the better setup on that side
i know alienware is a bit overpriced i could build the same setup for less then half the price ... and if i would know abit more about softwarehacks i would let it run osx then, as i dont do serious gaming i dont need windows

i play now a round asteroids :D

Now the imac 27" is 3 weeks behind for shipping.

I could always get an i5 or the 21.5 model, but feel like I am stepping down from the asus i7.

the asus has better hardware than the 27" i7 imac. if you don't need to do your everyday tasks on a mac os, and can live without it, then the asus is better bang for the buck. if i remember correctly, the 260geforce is somewhere in 4870's territory, so it's faster than 4850, and graphics (in games) in windows are usually better than in osx since there's more support for such things.

I still recommend you building it yourself or ask a friend to do it. Here is what I recommend:

Motherboard: ASUS M4A78T-E - 130$
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 BE 3.0GHz - 151$
GPU: ATI Radeon 5870 1GB - 410$
OR
Dual ATI Radeon 4870 - 340$
RAM: 4 x 2GB DDR3 1333MHz - 220$
Hard drive: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 7200rpm - 100$
Case: Antec 900 Black Steel ATX - 100$

Total: 1 111$ or 1 041$

Setup above runs circles on that ASUS you're looking for and all components have 3 years warranty I think

Why the AMD over i7?

AM3 and the 5850 or go Core i3 and a 5850.

I'm surpirsed that you can still get a Phenom II X4 940.
