I'm thinking of getting an iMac but can't decide which graphics card to upgrade to (the NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 or the ATi Radeon HD 4850). The last discussion goes back to April. Do the problems still exist with the ATi Radeon HD 4850 freezing up the iMac? Has this issue been resolved? Anybody know?

From everything I've read, the problems have been taken care of. I've had an iMac with the ATI card for about a week - no problems so far. I'm also much less bothered by the glossy screen than I thought I would be, but I have no lights or windows behind me.

Thanks for your responses. Anyone else? Anyone still having ATI 4850 problems?

The issue has been fixed.I was using mine for about a week before apple released a firmware update. I haven't had one lock up since the update. I watch HD trailers and play games, mainly wow fairly regularly.

I have had mine for about 2 weeks now and I have loved every second of it. The graphics have been great with no hiccups so far. I do not however game that much, so I couldn't tell you about that. HD video looks great though on both of my displays. Hope that helps.

I have had mine since April (when the FW update came out) and never had a problem. It is noticeably snappier than the ones without the high-end card, we have one at work with the Nvidia and I can tell a slight difference. Benchmarks show a big difference with gaming.

No problems here in several weeks of hard use. Whether to buy now or not depends on what you think about the rumor of an imminent iMac upgrade, though. (Personally, I doubt that there will be any substantial change until Q1 2010.)

Thanks for your input everyone. Hey TheAshMan, I'm curious, do you know if the computer at work with the Nvidia is it a GT120 or GT 130?

Issues solved. Get the ATI, it's only 50$ and you get a noticeable boost

Hey Hellhammer, I notice you endorse the ATI 4850, but it shows you have a GT130 in your iMac. Aren't you happy with what you have?
