So my new imac is now refusing to accept any disc. Whenever I insert a disc (I've tried several clean discs) it is automatically spit back out. The drive had been working earlier today. Any ideas?

Yes. I've tried dvd movies, music cd's, the OS X installation disc.

The only thing that's happened recently is downloading the iMovie update. I imagine that's a coincidence, but it seems so strange I was able to play a dvd earlier in the day and now this.

Yep, I've dealt with this one before. Dead optical drive. Take it in to an apple store, or call 1-800-MY-APPLE.

Umm, I hate to mention this but are you sure the disc is facing the proper way? I only mention this because when I got my new iMac, I put a disc in the wrong way (its my first mac and I didn't know which way the label should face:eek:) and it ejected.

I hope you can get it worked out.

:) Yes it is facing the right way. Although just to be sure I've tried it both ways... Thanks though.

Dang, I'm not looking forward to dragging this 24" monster to the store. How do they do returns thru 1-800-US-APPLE?

so i guess its just a crapshoot if the drive dies or if you get shipped a good drive?
