I am ready to make my first Mac purchase tomorrow but I have a question. I have pretty much decided on the iMac base model over the MBP 13" base model due to the much better hardware in the iMac for the same price.

I do a lot of video editing/DVD making and chose the iMac for its better processor and IPS panel. In a real world scenario, can I expect big gains in rendering times with the Core i3 over the Core 2 Duo in the MBP? Will it just be a matter of seconds faster on the iMac or are we talking minutes faster? Any head to head benchmarks I could look at would be great. I am hoping its a great deal faster to help make my decision final....LOL

Thanks for a great forum....I am looking forward to learning as I go.

The iMac will absolutely smoke the C2D MBP for rendering times. Not only is it a significantly higher clock speed ~667MHz, but also a newer architecture with hyperthreading as well.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am really excited and apprehensive to learn the ways of a Mac. I've been reading around the forums and hope I get a good iMac without any issues. I plan to use it for many years to come.
