iMac - Biggest mistake I ever made...

...is that I did not switch to Mac Long Time Ago.

I have been thinking for a year about switching to the Light Side and I have to say that Leopard was main reason for doing it.

Installation on the new OS was great, way faster and better than Windows. Everything did work just out the box and I was surprised to find out how many programs are there for Mac. I was able to find every single program for Mac i have used on PC.

- (X) (-) (+) being on the left side is different and I am still trying to click in the upper right corner but I will learn that one soon
- Having one Active Window instead of one with the program is probably the biggest difference but it is not bad at all
- WOW you dont have to uninstall programs, just move them to the trash - thats way better
- Safari is so fast; i am not sure if I am so impressed with my new Mac, but it seams that Safari is even faster than FireFox

- i do get pop-ups, how do i resolve this
- Do i really dont need AV or Ad-Ware?

- One thing that I dont like is the cable length on the Keyboard and Mouse, it is just to short, although this got resolved with me buying USB cable extender
- I do miss Office 2003 and 2007 (Excell, Work and Outlook) probobly more than anything since I am heavy used of them at work. I am not sure if Mac Office 2008 is going to be good alternative for the same program but I guess I can always use parallels

Make sure Safari's pop-up blocker is turned on...hit Shift-Command-K or have a look at the "Safari" menu to see if "Block Pop-Up Windows" is checked. Very, very few pop-ups get through for me.

You don't need antivirus or anti-adware/spyware for OS X. If you want to avoid passing along Windows viruses to your friends and coworkers, ClamXav is a free, lightweight scanner. Any of the commercial apps like Norton and Virex will simply wreak havoc with your system.

To prevent pop-ups, open Safari, click "Safari" on the menu bar and select "Block Pop-Up Windows" from the drop down list.

And you are right, Macs are great

How can you pass Windows Virus from the Mac?

Any infected file that you get (downloaded/sent to you via e-mail/whatever) can be passed along to whoever you send the file to. OS X won't be affected it by it, but you can help stop the transmission of it.

(OS X can be affected by Word macro viruses, although they're pretty rare these days.)

It's less likely now since most mail gateways screen for viruses. But in theory, someone sends you an Office document or pdf with a virus attached. You aren't affected but mail the document onto someone else with Windows who does get infected.

I did download Skype (example) and I did start installation and I got Window with the Skype Pic and Application Folder Pic. If I only do installation and if I dont click on the Application Folder Pic so that I get Skype in my Applications I get an Icon on the Desktop (looks like HDD), when ever I click on hold that icon on the Desktop my Trash turns into Eject sign?

Does this make sense what I am trying to say....

good to hear that u like your imac

as far as blocking ads in safari maybe take a look at saft (a plugin for safari) which is one of the most useful plugins for safari.
when your at it you might want to install inquisitor as well for safari.
both are leopard ready.

you don't really need AV on your mac...I however have clamxav installed to check outgoing and incoming mail to prevent sending viruses to my friends via email.

yep...applications are usually delivered in an image .dmg.
after having dragged the skype.app out of the image to your app folder just drag the "disk" on your desktop to the trash bin to eject the disk image and you can delete the downloaded .dmg.

as a side note: eject all your hardware (HD, digital camera, ipod etc) this way before disconnecting it.
