Ok the story so far
Imac g3 233
20gb harddrive (3 equal partitions)
192mb ram

info thingie
rom revision $77d.45f6
bootrom version 3.0.f2
macOS rom version 3.6

I upgraded the old harddrive to a "new" 20gb harddrive,
I initalised and partitioned the harddrive
then i set about installing os 9.01 on it it all installed fine (apart from a problem with airport?) then i rebooted and got a flashing folder and question mark,
I rebooted using the install cd and everything appeared to be where it should on the harddrive so i set the startup disk in the control panel,

when that didn't work i tried
resetting the pram thing
----re-install the whole shooting box

after about an hour i got grumpy and installed osX v10 on the harddrive in addition to os9, and the exact same thing happened, it installed fine but after reboot i get the flashing question mark thing

Updating firmware has been suggested, BUT when I installed osX it didn't protest about so i assume it was OK

Any help would be appreciated

8GB Max size

Im pretty sure I had the same issue years ago. The boot partition shouldnt be bigger than 8GB.
