Started up my 2011 iMac and the display stayed on the white screen with cursor blinking in upper left corner.

After several minutes with no change, the screen went black. I held down the power button to try a restart and the logon screen immediately appeared. So the screen going black must have been the normal time out.

Everything seems to be working, but I don’t like mysteries when it concerns my computer.

If someone could offer some insight on what may have happened and if it is a symptom of a potential future problem I would be appreciative.

I have the 1 T disk, no ssd, i7and running OS 10.11.6

Thanks for your reply. I am aware of the quality recall on the AMD radeon graphics card. In fact I had to have mine replaced under that recall program in March 2014 because of color and video distortion.. This time there was no color or video distortion. it just seemed the input to the video card never got past the white screen until I pressed the power switch.

I guess it was just a fluke.
