iMac BTO SSD an underperformer?

I ordered the 3.4, 4gig, SSD+2gig iMac the other day.

Im starting to think this was the wrong decision. Heres my problem;

Its shipment is stated as 4-6 weeks. Theres reports that they use Samsung SSDs (?) and i have read they are underperforming other (intel) SSDs by a great degree.

I dont know for a fact because the only sources are in reguards to the macbook pro 2011. And I have not seen anyone getting their BTO SSD iMacs yet. (4-6 weeks). So no confirmed reports what brand of SSD the 2011 iMac uses.

So I am in a bit of a pickle in reguards to modifying my order to only 2 TB drive and fit an intel 510 series SSD put in at my local apple reseller instead.

I have done the numbers and the drives are about the same price. but if the Samsung SSD is such an underperformer in comparison to the intel 510 series...

Anyone have any data at all on the SSD in the 2011 imac?

They may be "outperformed" in benchmark tests, but you are not going to notice any realworld dfference! Its such a big leap from HDDs that you will be happy.

Regardless, sustained transfer rate is not what SSDs are about. It's read latency and I/O operations/sec. For non-sequential reads (most of what you'll be doing), SSDs are about 100 times better than a hard disk, even low-end ones.

Yes, even a "mediocre" SSD still rocks. You'll still only give it up when its pried from your cold dead hands. It's a massive improvement. A high-end SSD is only twice as fast -- at best -- as that gigantic increase. Don't fret about an additional 2-fold boost. Look more at the giant initial jump SSDs give you.

No one knows what the SSD's will be. It most likely will not be any current Samsung or Toshiba SSD currently in use since they would have shipped already.

I was told that they are waiting on the firmware for the SSD's controller. Other people on here were told they are waiting on the SSD's themselves. No one knows for sure.

My guess it will be a new SATA 3 6gps SSD.
