iMac cant find my printer

i've connected my printer to my iMac but it doesnt print from it when i select the print option, does anyone know what it could be?

What do you mean by the set up? When i press cmd+p i get a drop down box, in this box i select add a printer in the drop down section, i click on my printer that shows up in the printer browser page but cant find the model number on the list of printers
