imac cleaning

ok ive got a imac from late 2010 (i3, 4g ram, etc.) and was writing my ap bio paper (im in high school, if you didnt get that), and my mother walks up, sprays the computer with windex, says oh there were fingerprints and to let it sit because then itll come off better later!!! it was starting to drip down to the speakers!! oh parents dont know anything abuot technology

Oh sorry, I forgot to ask the question. So what's the best way to clean the iMac's screen? I sometimes use the little rag that came in the box, but it really doesn't help at all. (See, I fixed my grammar)
 
Nothing's wrong with applying a little bit of glass cleaner to it, it is a glass panel after all. A lot of people talk about avoiding glass cleaner for lcd panels, but that's because most electronics don't use a glass panel over the panel to protect it or for aesthetical reasons like apple does.

Lol, I was just busting your balls. But the best way to clean it would be to use a soft microfiber cloth with some spray (spray is fine). After you apply the spray (dont use windex), wipe it down with a dry microfiber cloth and scrub it hard. Regular paper towels and windex take the glossy coating off
 
I use Monster Screen Clean from Best Buy. The bottle and rag last for years.

You couldn't be more wrong... Apple treats their glass screens with an anti-reflective coating. Windex, alcohol, and other solvents should not be used on them.
 
I actually use a big bottle of glass cleaner that's a vinegar solvent, but you know.

In most cases, all this precautionary advice and marketed lcd cleaners is one huge joke on consumers. I've cleaned my old G5 iMac with regular windex for over 6 years and never has that beautiful anti-reflective screen degraded in quality. I have done the same for my samsung TV as well. I'm a bit more sensitive to my 27 inch iMac and I use that the vinegar solution, but I can't help but laugh at all the marketing propaganda surrounding specialized screen cleaners.

iKlear is one huge hoax, it won't do anything at all to remove oil from fingerprints.
 
The Mac website and the Instructions for your iMac actually say to just use a wet, lint-free cloth to clean it. So I'm assuming a moist microfiber cloth is the best way.

Edit: Oh and it also so to turn it off and unplug everything from it... Probably just a safety precaution to protect their own asses though.
