Well I fix a lot of macs, basicly 24/7....
So back in August I go out to a client with a 17" imac 1.83 with a bad super driver, I change it out and put in a UJ-875 from a MacBook Pro. I start the machine, put in DVD start watching movie and go home leaving client watching....
4 weeks later client says drive works except when he tries to burn DVD or CD, itunes or iphoto crash. So I figure to new of a drive firmware issue, I drive back out and try a UJ-857 from a 2006 MacBook..... about the same vintage. Same problem plays fine, try to burn it craps out.
So then I figure trying a UJ-825 which I have stacks of from a fried iMac G5, well guess... same problem. So now I am thinking OS related...
Does it make sense that 10.4.11 checks which drive is mounted in the iMac when it is installing the OS and only installs the driver/firmware bundle for the specific drive ? I venture to guess it had a K06 in it but I don't remember ! my bad.....
Thought about running it in Leopard of firewire drive and seeing if it still would burn....
thanks
