iMac could use Arrandale

One thing that many people are overlooking is the fact that Arrandale is technically dual-core. Many are concerned with the fact that because the rumors point out that the next iMac is dual-core, it's going to be Peryn. So doesn't this mean that Intel could give Apple priority with CPU releases (as they have in the past), and we could see Arrandale in the next iMacs?

i would certainly hope so. apple is need of major hw upgrades across the board. really, the new imacs should be i7s, but oh well.

Arrandale will likely be in next gen iMacs. Why? Clarksfield is too expensive and desktop CPUs are simply too hot and Core 2 Duos are yesterday in 2000$ computers

Of course. At least that is what I am hoping for. I don't think people are over-looking Arrandale, it's just they want Clarkfield, or really, Quad-Core in the iMac.

And that's because some of them thinks that amount of cores is everything and four of them would make iMac fly. 2.66GHz Arrandale costs ~330$ and goes up to 3.33GHz with Turbo while 2GHz Clarksfield costs 1064$ and goes up to 3.2GHz with Turbo. IMO higher clocked dual is better than low clocked quad because only few apps even support more than one or two cores so two cores would be idling most of the time so the clock speed makes the app work faster, not the number of cores

I hear you. While I would love some quad-core action, you are right, it's not very likely. I'm just hoping Intel gives Apple priority with Arrandale. I, personally, do not want to see another cycle of Core 2 Duos.

I hope that the talk of a dual core CPU does mean Arrandale. My concern now is with all the talk of a thinner/sleeker iMac we could see the end of the 3.5 desktop hard drive and a move to a laptop SATA drive.

There is literally NO WAY that Intel would stand on stage one day and say that Arrandale is "on route for Q1" and then two weeks later give them exclusively to Apple.
Even if they surprise-announced them early for everyone, they would be a laughingstock, and noone would ever trust their roadmaps again.

This is not happening untill early january at the earliest, but that doesn't mean that a Penryn-upgrade now and then another upgrade to Arrandale in january is out of the picture.

based on what everyone here seems to think is best for them + apple, & some conflicting rumors, plus the timing of this rollout coincinding w/ intels -- doesnt it make by far the MOST sense that we're actually going to see quad core iMacs in a week or two??

it seems the only reason to think otherwise is this one rumor that theyre still dual core.

maybe im just dreaming, but thats what sounds most plausible to me.
