So...my Mac crashed again today and I’m not sure what’s causing it. I was working in Adobe InDesign when the screen started flashing at me. Then when I shut it off and tried rebooting it would load half way with the Apple logo only to have it just go to a white screen then after a few mins it tries to to reboot itself. I can’t seem to get it into recovery mode so I had a space Mac and targeted it and seemed to work. I ran DU on it and everything seemed fine. After countless attempts I just pull d everything off and wiped it. I was able to reinstall the OS from the internet and I got it back up to working. No heavy lifting until Not two days later (moments ago) I loaded Hearthstones, a card game, and as soon as the start screen appeared it was a little slow for a moment then it turns gray and I just hear a repeated audio sound. And when I shut it down and try to restart the same issue occurs. Back to square one. I’m not sure if it’s a graphics card issue or what. My Mac is a 27in late ‘11 i7

Any help I could get would be great. I’m currently borrowing the other Mac and need the one that’s out for freelance work

I hate to say it but it sounds like a logic board failure to me, gpu most likely, at that age it’s probably not worth fixing i’d Start looking for a new computer if it was me.

I have the same iMac, but took it in to the local Apple store while they were running a free logic board replacement program. They replaced the logic board/graphics chipset even though I wasn't having any issues. If you can reboot it and it can run long enough to open About This Mac, take a screen shot or a picture of the screen providing the info to an Apple store (or call if you're nowhere near one). They can look up the serial number to see if it was one of the iMacs affected. It has nothing to do with AppleCare, so it's worth a try.

Samuelsan's reply sounds good.

Most likely a graphics card failure, perhaps heat-related (problem develops as components heat up). 2011 does not seem to have been a good year for Macs, insofar as graphics are concerned -- but it was impossible to know that at the time of purchase.

Probably time to start shopping for something new or Apple-refurbished (sigh)...
