I've got ahold an old iMac (CRT, 600mhz).

It had system 9 on it, so i whiped it and installed Tiger. The display has been acting strangely. It periodically shifts to one side, untill part of the display has moved off the visible part of the screen. Its almost as if I have the "Displays" system preference open and am playing with the "geometry" tab.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? I've tried the basics. Firmware is up to date, and i've reset the PM unit, nvram, etc.

CRT's probably crapping out, this happened to me on one of my old iMacs.

It was gradual at first, then started shifting faster and faster till I started being able to see it. (this is over a period of days or weeks, mind you)

Eventually it got unbearable, and I just got rid of it, I don't believe there's any inexpensive way to fix this.

From what I remember, the CRT in every model of iMac was exactly the same. It was one of the things people kept bitching about after every revision; "What, the same exact crappy screen!?!" I think if you found somebody that was pretty technically inclined, they'd be able to swap it out for you. If you've got an iMac for parts, or look on eBay for a parts machine, that'd work. Just whatever you do don't invest a ton of money.
