iMac Daily-Weekly-Monthly Maintenance?

Guys

Is there an all-encompassing guide to things like Safari-empty cache (daily perhaps) or Repair Permissions, stuff like that? How often to do these, and what the routine does when performed?

Some of us need a click-by-click procedure to follow for these chores that are second nature to the experts.

Do I need CleanMyMac? Is there a risk in running defrag? The more I learn the less I know!

there are already system cron jobs for that.

if you leave your mac on they run at night time.

no need. Mac OS X is handling that.

I use clean my Mac and it has always worked wonders for me! I remove many language files and universal binaries from downloaded applications and save myself a lot of space!

That's not maintenance.

I used to run software like Onyx which would run a load of maintenance scripts like clearing cache and mail downloads. Resetting fonts and repairing permissions. All that stuff.

Pre 10.6 it felt like my macs were crying out for that kind of thing, but since Snow Leopard I can't say I've done it once. I haven't lost efficiency in any way and I don't get any of that "i'm tired" feel from my Macs any more.

My advice would be to not bother. OS X is handling most of it any way. The rest? Well you should be using Private Mode any way
