Today i received my iMac and was surprised that the UPS guy just asked if I was me (“Are you ....?”) and handed over the iMac to me. No signature, no identification.

Is this common practice? I think it’s worrisome. Let’s say the guy gets the wrong address...

And, on top of that, my computer is still on a UPS depot in Spain (I’m from Portugal) according to the UPS tracking site.

It was the first time that I didn’t needed to sign when ordering from Apple.
Is it like this nowadays or was this guy just lazy?

The upside was that the computer arrived 2 days earlier.

I think this is something that only people from your area can comment on. Here in the USA, if the shipper requires a signature, we have to sign. Our UPS guy has been the same for 20+ years, and he makes me sign. Of course, I want to, because I would hate to have him lose his job because he didn't follow the rules.
There is also an option for signing/accepting online.

I’ve always had to sign, be it Apple deliveries or not.
For example today i also received some photography filters and had to sign. It was not UPS, it was our national post service.

It was very strange. The guy didn’t even had any identification on him.

“I’m here to drop a delivery. Is this .... ?”

When I said yes, the guy shoved the iMac box in my hall and there he goes. I asked if i needed to sign anything he says no and goes down the stairs.

My new iMac was brought by UPS also. It came 4 days before scheduled and shown in UPS web. I was out for 3 days, and I was following the parcel on its way from Cork, Ireland (I live in northern Spain) with care.
The UPS guy phoned me from my address, asking if I wanted him to give the box to a neighbor... I preferred to stablish a new date, on original advised day.
I was at work when he came, so my wife signed the receipt.
I think relaxing rules it’s a convenient way of making life easier. I believe mediterranean people are this way...
It wouldn’t be difficult to resolve the issue in case of something going wrong, I suppose. ;)
