hey

the apple site says that the 20inch imac is 17.4 inches thick..im wondering if this means from the back of the stand to the front of the screen?how thick is the actual screen?

also im in ireland hunting for a desk and i seem to be coming up empty. found one today but its expensive...best ive found tho...how far away from the screen should i be to not blind myself with the 20 inch?!its huge!is a normal computer workstation ok?

im confused about whther to get the 17 inch or the 20...with the price diff i could get a scanner and printer but i use fcp so im wondering should i go for the 20inch?

:)

Stuck in the middle with you
I'm not sure about the measurements, but I sit pretty close to my 20" monitor due to it not actually being able to fit in the little monitor space in my desk. It's not too bad thanks to the high resolution, but i definitely sit back in my chair.

What do you mean 7.4 inches thick?
I've seen it in person, and it's nowhere near that!

And if I were you, I'd get the 17 inch with an external HD.

edit:
sorry about the quality of that pic.. I'm at school and all I have to use is MS paint. Woo woo.

that 7.4 is the size of the base support.....and of course you'll need room for the keyboard in front of it

I've got my 20" iMac on the same desk I had for my old CRT iMac.....any desk that's a "computer work station" will have plenty of space and so will any other desk you might use

you're going to sit about the same distance from it as any other computer....it's not a problem

hmm cant afford an extra monitor...i have a 60GB ibook and a 20GB ipod and an 80GB external harddrive....and id have the 250GB harddrive ...so in total 410 GB...im thinking i might save up for a 300GB ext hd if i really need it...maybe i could sell my left kidney...

ARGH why do apple make it so hard to choose....i cant even decide when its just a cable!

;)

I know it's also possible to mount your imac onto the wall, I've seen it done somewhere on here.
I know you can use a VESA mount on Rev. A & B iMac G5's. I don't think you can with the new Rev. C with the iSight. the bulging center doesn't allow it/

Definately get the 20" :D . I've got a really small desk at the moment in my uni room, and I was worried that the mac and the 5.sumthing" keyboard wouldnt fit on it...

Ive got just enough room for a gap between both the iMac and the Keyboard - and the Keyboard to where I rest my wrists. For some reason when I measured it, it seemed like it would be even 'more' cramped on my desk.

Granted, its still an _very_ thin desk lol, but I can work on it fine..for now:(

Buy the 20" man, its worth getting it for the screen size alone!:D :D

P.S: Here's what it looks like on a really small desk. If you have a normal desk you will be fine:
