can anybody help.

my imac 2 year old computer was working just fine ,then one day the screen went completely dead .
it was black , the power was on in and it used to fire up as normal.

i went to the apple shop who want £500 to fix it , i wondered if anybody has had a similar problem. the same thing happened to my macbook laptop.

This might not work for you, but this has been happening with my eMac as of late, and I found out by accident that slapping both sides of the monitor brings the display back.

(Yes, I know that one of these times it isn't going to work.)

I have a 24" iMac (2006) with the 7600 and I have just recently started having the exact same issue. I have talked to several people and apparently there is a capacitor issue on the logic board. Apple doesn't "fix" logic boards but rather just replaces them, that's why the 500 bill. I am currently trying to decide if it is worth it to crack open the case and attempt to replace the capacitors on my own.

Has anyone else on this forum gone down this path yet?
