Hello everyone,

I bought my new iMac in Apple retail Store about 5 days ago, it works like a charm. But think i made wrong decision, because:

1) I haven't used any rebates and bought it for full price
2) It perhaps will be updated soon...

So, what would you recommend to do? Return it back to the Apple Store (and loose a bit) and then buy it again later, or just continue using it and forget about that?

P.S: Sorry for my English.

take my advice and return it, even if u loose some few bucks, trust me the new update is worth it

sounds like you are within your return period. I would return it if only to get the rebates you could otherwise get.

If you want to wait for the updates then do it my friend!

Rumors point to laptop updates.... although technically the iMac is basically a laptop's guts stuffed into the iMac casing and a bigger screen. But just the MacBook / MacBook Pro are going to be updated, the iMac may have a slight speed boost, nothing more. Anyway, you should have done your research beforehand...

Here's an idea!

Try selling it on ebay with the box, but mark it as Slightly used and say you used it for 5 days. You could start the price at $119 below what you paid to make it the same as the restocking fee from Apple, and you may get more back. Then, either keep the money and wait, or spend it again and get the rebates. This way, you may only be out $50-$60 plus ebay fees.

You bought a wonderous new computer. Use it. Enjoy it. There may or may not be an update in a few months. Enjoy what you have no, tommorow will take care of itself.

If it performs well enough for you, then keep it. You can spend your entire life waiting for the next update, or you can just buy the computer and use it.

I would keep it. My thought are that the update will just be faster processor, Bigger HDD etc. Not new outsides, because apple seem to keep their designs for a while. If the machine is fast enough for you, then i say keep it

Beautifully put and I couldn't agree more.

I bought my iMac before the last update- I knew there was a bump imminent but what the hell? You can spend your life waiting for the next best thing. There's a legion of people on here always waiting for the next Macbook or Macbook Pro- check out the Page One threads.

I've loved my iMac since the day I bought it and I love it just as much now. Yes, they are expensive but they're beautifully designed and engineered and fantastic computer.

Plug it in, get some pr0n downloaded and enjoy! :D

I have agree with the ones that say keep it.

I bought the first 24" the day they came out. I had just bought a 20, but sold it quickly as the 24" screen suited my needs.

That´s almost exactly 2 years ago!!
I still use this machine every day and I´m editing HDV and HD on it. The only app I have some trouble with is Motion, but that´s due to the Graphic card.

I´m expecting to use it at least another year.

Personally I don´t think I would have noticed that much difference with a new iMac.
It´s better to have a Mac a couple of months and enjoy it, than wait for an update (that might even be dissapointing).

You have more than enough power (I´m guessing since I don´t know what you will use it for) and the form factor probably won´t change.

Enjoy!!

I would wait if you can.
I’m holding out until next year when a major update will happen? Maybe Snow Leopard will be out with it, too?
(I have a 4 years old G5 white Imac and it is so painful comparing to the Alum 20” at work!)

Just enjoy the iMac you have now, it's not like there's going to be a super-massive change when new ones come out.

I bought my iMac a few weeks ago and don't really care if a new one comes out soon because the one I have is still a great machine and will last me for years to come.

You can't win in this race, because the goal posts are always moving. Whatever the computer technology, it is always getting faster and more powerful. The cost of drive space, RAM and CPU speed continue to fall. Graphics cards will continue to get better. And on it goes. Keep your iMac and be happy, unless you really think you want/need something better.

In stock trading it is called timing the market. Not a particularly good idea there, and probably not a good idea when buying computers.

True, you wouldn't want to wait forever because there will always be the next best thing around the corner.

But not all updates are the same.
And I believe the next one (after Jan.’09) will be worth the wait.

don't return--- just enjoy it.

This is not going to one last time you buy a Mac. I went through 6 macs with in the period of 10+ years. Trust me. You will see the new one comes and goes while you enjoying your mac.

Then one day when you think it is time to upgrade, you will feel good about the wait. The trend of waiting for the perfect Mac on your desk is a bit out of control. I respect it but don't really understand it.

I remember last year my friend was getting a Mac Pro. Before he finally bought one. He went through this period of should I or should I not buy it now... Because the rumor about Blu-ray and all new 30+" monitor with iSight build in. Then he decided to go ahead and bought it. Never look back. You will enjoy your mac for a long time to come.
