Hi,

Ok im gonna keep this kinda short.

A few months back I ordered a 21.5" iMac which suffered from the yellowing screen issue. I went through 4 replacements all of which had the same issue, ending in a refund and giving up.

Last month I decided to order the 27" i7. All seemed fine with the machine until a few days in white lines appeared on the screen and it kept crashing.

Here is a pic:

So I was issued a replacement. On opening the replacement the lcd screen wasn't fixed properly inside and that had to be returned.

I decided to go to a retail store to check the machine before I purchased. On opening the first one there was a unidentified black spot in the screen, not a dead pixel. The tech guy had a look and said he had no idea what it was, so they swapped again. All look fine and I went home.

On firing it up at home it make the most loud ticking noise that after speaking to the apple team they couldn't diagnose, this also had to be returned.

Video of the noise:

The store done checks on another one before I collected and this is the machine I have now.

So it's obvious Apple has some serious quality control issues, but thats not why im here now.

My machine at the mo looks fine, the screen is fine, and so far no crashes. Im just a little concerned about what level of noise this thing should be making.

Now don't get me wrong it's not as bad as the other one I had and the noise im experiencing now isn't a hard drive (i don't think) when it's seeking it seems fairly quiet, it's more of a power/fan sound not a buzzing just kind of a dull whirring/ticking. Is this normal? Can anyone with a similar machine out there let me know what level of noise they are getting?

Maybe im just paranoid now, but I want to know im not getting bad systems here.

I look forward to your replies.

Thanks.

I don't experience these issues with my 21.5 inch iMac and im very pleased with the way that machine is performing right now.

I wouldnt say apple got quality issues, me personally, I have never had any problems with their gear and I sure hope i wont run into any.

Hi,

Ok im gonna keep this kinda short. Thanks.

It shouldn't do that.

Upon unboxing and launching my 21.5" iMac in early March, the whine was non-stop. I returned it immediately. I admire your patience to deal with 6 machines prior to this one.

If this was me, I'd return for a refund and wait for the refresh. If you can wait...if not I'd consider another Mac.

Its not like all the current iMac models are faulty, maybe more models are faulty in this line , but certainly not all - since I , and a lot of other people have one thats working great.

I think Apple should keep swapping you out units till they get it RIGHT.

Thanks for the replies.

Apple won't send me anymore, they have told me to go to retail, which I have done twice now so that my only option and the very closest one is over an hour away for me.

I would choose another system but there is nothing that matches the i7 quad right now. I was considering a laptop but these just don't have the same spec :(

Wait till the update on the iMacs, get a refund now.

I had an iMac 21.5 inch, I had to return it once because of dead pixels then the second one had a stuck pixel

So then I just got a refund, waiting for a refresh should fix the problems they all have. Wait for a refresh, then wait to hear the news, then get one if the problems are fixed.

I feel your pain, I'm on my 3rd 27" imac now.. this one seems good.. fingers crossed.

Explain to Apple that they are clearly incapable of providing you with a working iMac, so they should provide you with a Mac Pro and a 30'' monitor at no additional charge.

I am speaking to really senior guy at Apple, but im not sure they would go that far?

If the screen is good, go for a repair at this point.

Might seem counter intuitive, but if you like the LCD display. Fixing the graphics card really gives you the highest opportunity to end the merry-go-round with the returns, and give you a working machine with a perfect screen.

Probably should be able to swing free Applecare, an iPod, or wireless keyboard/mouse with the repair.

---

And they should be able to JUMP you to the head of the repair queue and do it as soon as the part hits the retail store, and fix the machine when you go out to eat.

---

The store here jumped my machine to the head of the queue, and it was repaired in an hour... but they also messed up a repair, so they were trying to wipe the egg off.
