HI all!

First of all, I HATE windows more than anything lol.
I'm sure I will be a happy switcher. Macs just can't be worse than windows haha.

So I was thinking about buying an iMac. Maybe even a macbook, who knows.
For my first buy I was wondering for which of them to choose...

But then it comes to another problem: I think that I can wait till leopard comes out (which should happen by the end of this year) to buy an Apple computer. And till then, does anyone know wheter the iMac has a chance to get updates on it's hardware too?
But then, again, maybe I should go for a macbook: cheaper, it's brand new, won't have updates any soon...

Argh. Too many questions, too many doubts... Any opinions?
Thanks
:)

Well, technically it could be sometime next year for Leopard to arrive (I'm betting it will be the main focus of MWSF '07 - a really big software event with iLife '07 and iWork '07 thrown into the mix with a couple of new hardware announcements - they could also just announce the date at MWSF and release a little later).

You're only decision as to whether you need an iMac or MacBook is portability. If you don't need the portability, the iMac is a much better machine than the MacBook - it has a bigger screen, better graphics, larger and faster HDD, more IO options, better speakers etc. But if you need something to carry around, the MacBook is a superb choice.

But, you need to consider, with no definite release date for Leopard - we'll know more at WWDC in August, is can you wait till possibly February or March next year?

Personally, I'd buy one now, with the specs I want and get some use out of it - waiting and waiting sucks.

If you're lookin' forward to buying a Mac, I would suggest to just buy it. You could always upgrade when the new OS comes out. Technology will always be changing so having the latest will be hard to keep up with. The intel jump was probably something to wait for, but now, it doesn't really matter.

iMac or MacBook? Depends on what you're goin to be doin with it. If you need the portability, get the MB, otherwise I would suggest the iMac. It might be a little but more expensive but offers a lot more in the RAM, HD, and screen space (& probably some other good stuff). Good luck on your choice.

I switched in January. I now have an iMac and a MacBook. Start with the iMac. A portable just ain't great for your main machine. Get 2GB of RAM for sure.

I used to do network administration to pay my way through film school, so I was definitely a Windows power-user. Still, I don't think I will ever go back to Windows now. It's not that I think Windows sucks (it doesn't). It's just that I find the Mac environment a space more conducive to getting thoughtful work and creation done.

Lovely OS and machines.
