Hi,

Ordered an i5 iMac 27" this morning with no customisations, for delivery to UK.
I assumed it would be dispatched from China and arrive next week although the apple store is showing an estimated delivery of 21st (tomorrow) through to friday 23rd.

Would I be right in assuming this is being dispatched from a UK warehouse then, and I'm just wondering how likely I would be to actually receive it tomorrow.

Thanks

It would be insanely silly and costly for any company to individually ship machines and parts from China all over the world - so naturally they ship units in bulk to the countries that sell the machines.

In other words, yes, it's being dispatched from a UK warehouse.

As for receiving it tomorrow, yea.. maybe. Likely if you ordered early during business hours. Not likely if you ordered it after hours.

Thanks, I ordered my iMac at 9:30ish this morning, and during the afternoon the order status changed from "Not yet shipped" to "Prepared for shipping", but has since gone back to "Not yet shipped" somehow :(

Anyone have any idea what's going on?

My estimated ship/delivery dates haven't changed.

it could be something simple like they marked it of but had lifted the another model of it by mistake and on second check for transit noticed it and took it off order and are going back to replace it, if date hasnt changed i wouldnt worry

Ah, that explains it...

my i7 was shipped from China.

Can you remember how long it took? I ordered one (iMac i7) last week; Order Status says it shipped last Friday but estimated delivery is the end of *next* week. I'm hoping (perhaps unwisely) this is a cover-for-any-mistakes and I might get it earlier...

Needless to say I'm envious of the thread poster's "ordered this morning, might have it tomorrow" shenanigans :)

Here in Holland it's the same. My shipping date (iMac i5) is after 3 days and then a week for delivery. Est. 2-3 august and ordered yesterday morning.
And most of the time our stuff comes from Ierland as well. Hope that it is a verry verry safe timeframe from Apple.

thats cool all uk macs bought online from uk apple store ship from apple's site in cork in ireland
then i'm confused as to why mine was still shipped from China. i am truly confounded, Apple must have made some sort of horrid mistake.

i think it took the best part of a week to get from China to the next checkpoint on its way to me (the Royal Mail depot at Tonbridge). once it said it was there it was with me within 24 hours.

This is all guesswork on my part, but what I assumed happened is default config iMacs will ship from a warehouse in Ireland, whereas customised iMacs (such as i7s) will ship from China after being custom made.

I actually got mine in less than 24 hours
:D
Ordered at about half ten yesterday morning, and the TNT delivery man actually woke me up this morning at about 8AM with my Mac

I think that's a good guess. I can answer my own question: Late last night the shipping status changed to "With final carrier" and a UPS consignment number was assigned.

It arrived about 10 minutes ago...

So that's 9 elapsed days from order to arrival, with the specified 3 days to build giving 6 day transit. Your Mileage May Vary.
[external markings just say "Assembled in China" so I can't say where it came from once I ordered it, but if it left China air-freight on Friday that would tie in with ~18 hour final delivery once received in-country]

Sadly UPS have sent one of my 3 packages to Reading instead of here but it's only the Remote and DVI connector and it's not going to stop me so I'm not worried.

Can you tell me how long it took from order to delivery at your home? I am waiting for my i5.

Have fun with your beauty........

Custom machines come straight from China currently, with stock machines shipping direct from Apple's distribution centre in Leicester (Syncreon Technologies).

Mac Pros come from Cork, Ireland.

no there actually shipped from syncreon in Hinckley

afraiD not my friend lol.
applecare phone calls recently confirmed it to me with the exact words:

"all orders placed for delivery in united kingdom are shipped from our cork facility in ireland, with the exception of a few build to order options which ship from the manufacture plant in china"
