Add this to my list of reasons to hate Big Sur.

iMac : 2017 running Big Slow v 11.2.1
iPhone X : running iOS 14.4.2 (it also didn't work with the most recent versions of MacOS or iOS)
issue : iMac Finder will not see the connected iPhone

With Catalina I had no sync issues. With Big Slow installed the phone doesn't show up in the Finder. It does charge, it also shows up in the System Report as a USB device. I received the "Trust this computer" dialog when I first plugged the iPhone in, and of course I clicked "Trust". the Finder steadfastly refuses to otherwise acknowledge the iPhone.

The USB port and Lightning cable are not the issue. The computer knows there's a phone there. The phone knows there's a computer there. What else is there to try? I need to move photos and music back and forth.

Man I miss iTunes.

Just a shot in the dark here, but have you checked the Finder Preferences to make sure that both "External Disks" and "CDs, DVDs and iPods" are checked to show up on the Desktop?

Now I have it. Thanks guys. I had only looked at the general pane in the Finder preferences, I didn't think to check the "Advanced" pane.
