My recently purchased iMac Q-Core i5 just crashed on me.
The screen went black, though I was still able to hit the multi-window key that showed me all open windows. But I was unable to do anything else. So I tried turning off the computer, as well as unplugging. When I try to power up it makes the usual whirling noise but then nothing, and the screen remains black with no functionality.

Anyone encountered something like this?
Is it dead and in need of service?

I really don't like having my iTouch as my only computer!

i am no expert with the new intel Mac's .
but i would not consider freezing as a normal behavior
Mac' dont freeze without cause and if the screen stays blank
you cant use the iMac for any other purpose then as a doorstopper or paperweight ,so then i would say ,
its time to bring it into the apple store for a genius to have a look at it

I just spoke with apple service.
She had me hold down a bunch of keys at once that seemed to do some restore of settings (apologies as I am not as computer literate as some). She said it probably had something to do with the iMac going into sleep mode and not waking up. She had me remove all login items from the system preferences. That was about it. So I don't entirely know what this all means, but at least it seems to be working again.
