Can anyone offer any help on a problem with my early 2009 Imac that has me stumped!!

I recently got this machine second hand ( not working) I diagnosed the PSU was dead, so swapped it for one that works..
I now get...
Power on ---Chime ---white screen ---nothing appearing on the screen
I removed the RAM to check 3 alarm tone works--it does.
Connected usb keyboard and mouse ----mouse recognised ---keyboard isn't
connected other usb devices to Imac ---all powered up
connected an external powered usb hub, keyboard still not recognised ( all other usb connections are)
connected an iphone direct to the keyboard connected to the imac---iphone charges through the keyboard connection---keyboard still dead ( caps lock light doesnt light)
checked keyboard(s) in other macbook pro's etc---confirmed all working ok.

I have even changed the PRAM battery, no difference.

Any clues guys? I am stumped.... my only other thought is GPU? but would i still get a chime? and all USB connections working apart from a keyboard?
Thanks
