iMac Excessivley hot

I just bought a new Aluminum iMac Refurbished from Apple. I've noticed that the top of the Mac is unbelievably hot. I think I burned myself actually from touching it, or I would have had I not taken my hand off.

I'm in the middle of a big download on the windows side (boot camp) so can someone recommend me something to monitor temperature on windows?

Just to be sure, I got a monitoring program and it said that my Core 0 is 73 degrees celsius and my Core 1 is 69 degrees celsius and my GPU is 62 degrees celsius.

Does that sound ok?
 
Aluminum dissipates heat very quickly and as a result it always feels hotter than it should (or one would think) but as it is such a cooling conductor it actually cools the machine rather well. It's just deceptive most of the time.

Should be just fine - mine is 60/61 at near idle. iStat is a pretty cool little widget that tells your temps and much more, if you want to check it out.

I'll download that SmcFancontrol when I switch back to the Mac OS X side.
 
You don't need to download SMC or any other fan controller; there's a reason Apple sets it to the level it is at. Increasing the fan speed only diminishes the estimated life for the fan.
 
SMC Fan Control? Arrgghhh.

You don't buy a car and take it to a garage for them to make the fan come on all the time, because you don't trust Ford.

The iMac just works as it is. No need for messing with the fans.

It won't explode or smelt but if you keep it cooler, components will have a lot longer lifetime, especially hard drive.
