Getting my first iMac next week - a 5K 27" 2015 model. Very excited to leave the PC world behind.

This machine has the 1tb Fusion drive. I have approx 1.5tb of files on my PC, so I would like to get an external drive to use as my main storage medium (or enclosure - I have 2 WD internal drives in my PC I could potentially use I suppose).

Can you guys recommend me an external drive? It will need to be fast enough to stream HD video - is that an issue this days? Do I need a Thunderbolt drive or is USB3 fast enough?
Also - I like the idea of a 2 drive setup in RAID for backup.

Thanks in advance for any knowledge you can share.

I’d just get a 2 or 4 drive enclosure, checkout OWC at Macsales.com or Akitio Thunderbolt 3 product line. You can then create a RAID0 or RAID1 of your two drive (assuming they are the same capacity).
