I have replaced the HDD in my 2011 27" iMac (10.11.6) with an SSHD. The fan is now running at full speed due to the new drive not having the relevant sensor information. I have fitted one of these 3rd party sensors but the noise persists. I have tried software solutions such as SSD Fan Control and HDD Fan Control, thay made no difference. I have reset SMC many times, as well as NVRAM. Does anyone have any other ideas please? Apple hardware test returns error code 4mot/4/40000003:hdd-1244 which refers to the HHD temp sensor I believe.

I believe that the 4mot is actually a fan motor failure error but since the fan is running at full speed that doesn't seem like the issue.

At any rate, OWC certifies their thermal sensor to pass the Apple Hardware Test so if that isn't working I'd contact their customer support first. It might be a bad part.

You need an OWC Heat Sensor kit.
Apple mader this a non user upgrade procedure and unless one uses an identical hard drivew to the origional, the fans will go into overdrive. The kit prevents this.

reread OP post #1
OP stated that sensor kit was installed. They just did not purchase directly from OWC, but the kit is the same OWC part.
Best help for OP is to contact OWC tech support directly.

I just reused the standard heat sensor, unstuck it from the HDD and stuck it to the SSD...
