I am new to the mac world and just bought an old iMac G4 700 flat panel to mess around with. I am going to upgrade the ram but I'm not sure if the DIMM slot on the motherboard can take a gig of ECC memory or if I am limited to 512 in both the DIMM and SO-DIMM. Any help would be great.

Get Mactracker and look up the details for your particular model. It will tell you what type of RAM you need, the officially supported configurations and what really works.

G4 iMacs had two slots, one that was easy to get at and one that was a pain. The modules were different types, take care to get what you really need for the slot you intend to attack!

The 700 mhz iMac G4 will support up to 1gb RAM. There are two slots and each will accomodate a 512mb chip. The internal slot requires a PC133 DIMM and the user-accessible slot requires a PC133 SO-DIMM (laptop memory).
