I am editing 4k at 60fps on a 2015 macbook pro i7 with 16gb RAM and it cant cope. I am looking to spend £2500 on an imac. Happy to go with refurbished. There are so many options. I am thinking about an Imac 27 2017 i7 32gb with 1tb SSD. But I'm wondering if I should be considering spending more on an imac pro.
Would love to hear everyone's thoughts.
Cheers

I would not at all advice an iMac Pro honestly. GPU performance will matter more than CPU and the 2020 standard iMacs are actually capable of being faster in that regard; The iMac Pro can be configured with more CPU cores, but each core is also faster in the standard iMac.

You didn't mention the codec you're using; That matters more than resolution and frame rate.

To land on $2500; Pick the top tier standard 2020 iMac and set the SSD to 1TB. Keep memory at 8GB;
Swapping the memory yourself is easy and costs peanuts compared to what Apple charges. I have 32GB in my iMac and it cost the equivalent of about $120.

If you don't mind external storage you can also keep the SSD at 1TB.
