Hi there,

I am really thinking about getting an iMac 21.5" but I am thinking about the games it will be able to handle... I am working on a macbook in the office and it is just so smooth and reliable, I want this experience at home.

But I like to play, like WOW and I am looking forward to SCII and DIII but - will the iMac be able to handle those games? Any experiences in the SCII Beta from anyone??

Would be horrible for me if I buy this expensive piece of technology and not being able to play anything new ^^

Any tips, hints or experiences would be very helpfull for me. Thank you!

The mobility 4670 in the 21.5 inch iMacs will not be able to max out starcraft2/diablo3. The mobility 4850 in the upper end iMacs will, however.

You can still get decent performance out of the mobility 4670 if you set the shaders to medium or so. Blizzard programs their shaders to be very gpu intensive, so altering the shaders in their games will give huge differences in performance.

iMac updates are usually in the fall. So if you want the latest and greatest and can afford to wait a few months you will be better off for a game (dIII) that isn't even released yet. :D

Neither game is released yet and the current generations of iMac's can play (probably) both.

Nothing to worry about.

Oh that is interesting, is this like with the iPhone? Always in June?
So it would be better to wait a few months to see if they get a hot update?

@all thank you for your postings so far!

Im using a iMac from last june (bought just before the 27" release :( ...was not so up-to-date on how they released their products and hadn't found this page either) It's the 24" 2,66ghz 4gb ram and Gforce 9400 256mb.

Im playing both SC2 beta and Wow with more then good enough settings as said before just lower the shaders and it works great. But I would also recommend waiting and buy when the new one arrives. I know I'am :D

Ok so SC II is out now, and also some new iMac with faster processor... Any Benchmarks or experiences with SC II?

I don't want to buy an iMac if SC II can't be played in ultra settings or anywhere near there, so should I keep waiting for the next generation (will there be one with better graphic cards?) or is the fastest 21.5" enough?

Ultra? Uhhhh.... look elsewhere the midrangers won't get you anywhere near there.

When you switch from pc to mac there are some sacrifices you need to make. And unfortunately high quality gaming on a reasonable budget is one of them
