So i have a newish iMac 24in 3.06, and after installing some udpates with the auto updater (security updates, quicktime, etc), it needed to restart. When it was restarting, the gray screen with the apple icon and spinning wheel stayed on longer than normal (I guess as updates were applied), and then hung on the blue screen. I turned the computer off by holding the power button, turned it on again, and everything was fine. I did a couple of resarts / shut downs to make sure everything was working okay, and it booted up just fine - it appeared just to have a problem immediately after the updates installed. The same thing happened after I installed the logitech control center preference pane for my mouse (prior to this incident).

Anyways, I'm sure this isn't supposed to happen, but it it normal? The comp is booting just fine now, so it is hard to say that there is something "wrong." Should I be concerned?

This is a frequent occurness, happened to me on 10.5.4 update. Updates always cause the computer to be on gray screen longer at initial launch, but afterwards that goes away. Back up your data, and you should be fine. Nothing to worry about (yet)
