iMac freezes

so this has happened 3 times maybe more:

My mac will freeze, however the audio still works, keyboard is useless for me to force quit anything. mouse still works, audio works. The dock freezes when highlighted. The only solution is to hold the power button and restart. No crash bug pops up when the machine has restarted.

Has this happened to anyone else?

what iMac do you have , just asking because on the G5 with bad caps thats normal

and if its a intel iMac what did you do last before it started to freeze , i means i never seen a Mac freezing without a cause ,
ok i only ever have seen one freezing and that was the above mentioned iMac G5

ok that could be a cause too , never thought about that ,that somebody could think "oh now i have a i7 and now i can run all my 1066 apps at once "
and then wonders that even a i7 has limits
never mind when he brings up the log we may find out whats really going on




i still prefere fore every app another Mac , but thats my way of multi tasking

My late 2009 iMac i7 has done the exact same thing. It did it most often when I was using CS5 or/and Aperture. Extremely annoying ! Took it to Apple store and they replaced the graphics card. Computer was OK for a few weeks and then it started again. It was happening often and then with the last software updates it seems to have been fixed now.

The way ti is now, I can not make it happen and it seems to happen at random with no pattern as to programs being open. Sometimes the computer has no programs open and it freezes.

Locking the screen seems to cause it most often, since I have stopped locking the screen it very rarely happens. It happens so rarely now, can live with it.
