I have a first generation intel iMac that started freezing up/applications crashing a couple days ago. When it happens I see multiple crashdump processes spawn into the process table.

I haven't loaded anything new in weeks but I did add 1GB of crucial memory about 6 weeks ago. Today I pulled the new memory and cranked it up to see if it happens again. It usually takes a couple hours for the problem to manifest.

That said, I have a few questions.

1. Does the memory sound like it could cause this type of behavior?
2. I have AppleCare on the machine, can Apple support examine any crash files if I contact them?
3. Any ideas on a next step if this memory test doesn't pan out?

Thanks

To answer one of your questions yes memory can definately cause this type of behavior.
