iMac Freezing

My iMac keeps freezing on me when the screen saver is running. I just got home and my screen is frozen and the clock says 6:11 PM and its currently 6:43. Nothing works and i have to hold the power button down to shut it down. It does it all the time when i dont put it to sleep and just let the screen saver run. What could be causing this? and how can i fix it cause it really annoying!!!

Well, first, you really don't need a screen saver on an LCD screen. All it does is kill your backlight. It's best to have the screen just turn off or have the computer sleep instead.

well usually i put the screen to sleep but it comes out of sleep cause of time machine. And alot of times i downloading stuff so i want it to continue downloading while im not home but it ends up freezing.
