iMac FTW! - Whats your uptime^^

Hey guys. I currently have the 2009 iMac. Since last 2months ago i needed to run a program 24/7 for a big project. i checked istate today and it said that the uptime was 40 days

This is AWESOME!! I can safely say you cannot achieve this with a windows machine

so tell me guys...what's your uptime XD

I run a windows server at home with my movie collection and it has that uptime and then some.
In fact the only time it goes down is when the power goes out or I turn it off when I go on vacation.

On my acer windows 7 laptop, aside from going to sleep I haven't restarted it in months.

Also think of how much dust gets in there...

Now, iMac is at 15 hours. I do a weekly restart on it. My Windows 2008 server is running strong, 218 days. Would be longer, but I think it turned off because my battery UPS protector wasn't able to last very long. Only about 5 mins or so and the power was out longer.

Not smart to leave your computer on 24/7.

Unless you are completely unplugging your computer when it's not in use, just turing it off doesn't really protect it from power surges.

Are you kidding? The OP is just making a point about how good a mac is vs. a pc. If I even think about leaving my pc up for two days it will shut down just because I had that idea. The OP also stated that he had to leave it up to run a project for that amount of time.

lol dont worry about the electricity bill, the project pays it selfs

but is it really bad for your iMac to leave it 24/7 ? discuss ?

I have a first generation al iMac (2007?). I got it about 1 month after it was released. It has been on continuously since then except twice when I moved (within same suburb so probably off for max 3 hours each time). It has crashed about 20 times in 4 years and needed a restart (all but 1 crash was while playing cod 4). I think we may have had 2 short power cuts in that time (inner suburb of Sydney, Australia so pretty reliable power - eg not much extreme weather).

Never missed a beat.

I used to look at a widget I have that shows some stats, you know temp and network activity and such. I can remember uptime being well into the 100s of days at times but never really tried to maximize.

My first Mac and first iMac... the 2006 Core Duo... left it on 24/7 unless I had to reboot due to updates or crashes.

But since I got my Mac Pro last year, I didn't need it on anymore. Funnily enough, the hardy iMac won't turn on anymore
