iMac Fusion HDD broke, replaced with SSD. Windows cant find it.

Hi,
I have a late 2012 iMac with a 1TB Fusion Drive.
As the HDD had a lot of errors and my system became very slow and freezed a lot I decided to replace the HDD for a Samsung 850 Evo 1TB.
Now I have 128GB PCI-ssd (Flash) and Samsung 850 EVO 1TB.

I do have to say, that I am now quite convinced about the Fusion technique. With a much faster SSD, I dont feel any difference with my old FUSION combo HDD. So Apple did really a great job with the fusion technique. Although I still prefer SSD, because HDD break down every 2/3 years, and in Bootcamp Windows, everything is much faster. (windows dont recognize Fusion)

Once installed the SSD, it got automatically fusioned with the PCI-ssd. On my Mac its all pretty and well.
But I use Windows a couple times a week, and when I try to make Windows with Bootcamp, all I could select was 105GB (out of 1,12 GB)
After installing, I noticed that Windows isnt seeing the 1TB Samsung 850 EVO at all!
Thats also the reason why I could only get 105GB for Windows.

Anybody any idea what I did wrong?
I rather have 300GB for Windows than the 105GB that I have now.

By "can't find it", do you mean you can't even see it in the Device Manager and/or Disk Manager?
If you can't find it at all in the device manager it's really strange.
If it is found in device manager it could be that there's something with the filesystem on the new SSD or maybe you needed to select the correct drive in Boot Camp Assistant (haven't used it in ages so don't really remember how it works).

And HDD "breaks down every 2/3 years", seriously? I've never, ever, had HD break down for me except for one that was in a computer which i dropped to the floor while it was running, and i've owned maybe 50 of them the past 20 years. Some of them have been running 24/7 the past 5 or so years without a hiccup. For some reason HDDs seems to crash more frequently for some users than others. I work as an educator and this can be seen with my students, some of them always tend to have hard drives that crash. Some years before the students start we buy 40-50 brand new hard drives (which the students connect via a HDD Caddy to the PCs), there's always 3-4 students which breaks their hard drives in the first month or so, and the same students tend to come back asking for a new hard drive in a year or so. I'm not one who believes in bad luck, so if you tend to keep hard drives that breaks down, please look at your handling of said devices...

I think you should tell us the version of the Windows you use. You need 64 bit Windows[Vista, 7, 8, 10] to boot from an EFI/GPT drive.

Also, I agree with @bogg that you should check in device manager and disk manager to see if the drive is there but not arranged a disk letter.

I have Windows 7 Premium 64bit.
I havent tried any device or disk manager, but will do tonight and let you know.
There is not much you can change within the bootcamp, it only shows you how much GB you want to spend on windows.

Who said anything about Portable drives, and you could as well treated the iMac badly rather than the harddrive, or it could be a manufacturing defect. Anyway, hdds breaking in 2-3 years isnt the norm. I reacted on you stating it as it was a fact...

Though windows Device Manager, I can find the SSD. So it is there, very strange....
Although im pretty sure i didnt make a mistake, ill try it again later.

Hey man, I just wanted to follow up with you and see if you were happy with this upgrade. I'm debating between replacing the HD on my fusion drive with an aftermarket SSD to get better speeds and silence vs just getting rid of the HD altogeather and going with the SSD only via the new OWC upgrade. It seems you didn't really notice a large difference in terms of speed. How about the noise? Did you notice a drop in background noise?
