Is there any way I can replace it myself, or is that on the MOBO?
I am trying to help this guy out and i'm not sure what I should tell him?

I don't really think there is anything you can do. I believe the ethernet port in the iMac is integrated into the motherboard. Therefore, you can't really replace it. What you can do is: get a external ethernet port that connects to a USB drive.
