I bought an I mac a few days ago from a friend as a sort of xmas present for my Dad.
He wanted a PC (Top Spec of course) but I decided that to buy him something for which he'd only use for emails and light browsing I'd get him something simple like an iMac, that way if he wants to add t it then he can go down the USB or firewire route. Problem is after my friend formatted the harddrive and gave it to me, when I got it home and tried to power it up it wouldn't even power the harddrive. I've opened the case powered it on and the harddrive doesn't even spin. I can boot from cdrom no problem. I've tried a different harddrive and still the same.

Any ideas what it could be.

God am I dumb.

I did some digging around and it looks like basically all I had to do was re-initialise the harddrive.

Did that and it seems to be coming up so I can now get the OS on.

Cheers for the help.
