I have an iMac G3 400 mhz slot-loader (I think it's the DV but I can't quite remember) with a CD-R/DVD-ROM, running 10.3.9. The drive is showing up on System Profiler, but iTunes is not recognizing the drive, and when I put in a blank CD from the Finder it just spits it out.

Any help?

Are you 100% positive the drive is a burner?

IIRC, the 400 MHz never shipped with a CD-RW -- it was CD-ROM or on the DV models, DVD-ROM. Spitting out blanks is the primary indicator....

Yes I believe the previous poster is right.

It was about this time Apple switched From DVD ROMs to CDRW drives, there were no drives at the time that would do both.

I'm pretty sure that your machine has a DVD ROM.

I thought we could burn on it, but you may well be right. The machine actually belongs to my mother-in-law (whom I am helping out), at is 1500 miles from where I am - I'll try to find out more. Thanks,
