Hey all

I just recently picked up one of these at a yard sale for 15 bucks ! :) I plan on having it primarily for my nephew (4) so he can practice and get familiar with computers.

My question is what is the highest OS I can put on here? It's so sloooooow, and a lot of websites don't even work because it's still on OS 9.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

$15 is probably too much.

And unless you have a retail 10.4 installer disc, paying $100+ for one is probably out.

And even if its running 10.4, he wont be able to watch any flash -- Disney site, sprout, nick jr, etc, etc -- all no go

You should look on CL for a 1.25 G4 eMac. $75-50, would still be OK.

why wouldn't it be able to watch flash? is there anything that could be done to it so that would be possible?

Maybe you could watch low-res Flash (240p), but even that will be slow, as Flash is CPU intensive, and a G3 is quite an old CPU for that. Maybe look into a Core Duo Mac mini or G5 iMac if Flash is important.

Just as what others have already mentioned, that G3 is probably not good for even light (I mean, really light) web-browsing. I picked up a 15" G4 iMac, iSight and some original accessories (all in pretty much brand new condition) for $100 and although it has a 800mhz G4 cpu and 514mb RAM, it is barely okay for web-browsing but nothing else.
