iMac G4 17" RAM compatibility question

Hey all,

My mother has this god-awful iMac G4 1Ghz 17" from 2003 that runs like an absolute dog.

It's got a new hard drive, made a slight improvement.

Anyway, it's RAM setup is 256/256=512. The user one is PC2100 DDR 200 pin and the Apple one is 184 pin.

I have plenty of spare RAM, including a 2GB module of PC2-5300 DDR2 200 pin from a dead MacBook mid-2007.

Is this backwards compatible with the user accessible slot? I know 2GB is the max for the iMac G4 - I will just remove the Apple one.

You can't use that RAM from the 2007 MB, as the MB uses PC2-5300 DDR2 RAM, while the iMac uses PC2100 DDR SDRAM, PC2700 DDR SDRAM or PC133 SDRAM (all depending on the model).

Here you go for more RAM, but as there have been several models, you need to make sure via the GHz.
