On my mom's G4 iMac (17", 800 MHz), the Pro Speakers (at least I think that's what they're called - the ball speakers that came with the iMac) doesn't seem to work. It's plugged in and all, but no sound comes out. Any tips on diagnosis of the problem? Any way to test it somehow?

If you have another set of speakers, plug them in and see if they work. If they do, then your pro speakers are messed up. If they don't, then the ports on your iMac are messed up.

Hmm, can you do that? I thought the Pro Speakers plug is proprietary?

Well I feel really stupid now. The computer was set on mute.

Thanks anyway. Cap'n!

No problem dude. We all have our moments :)

But now you have me wondering if it is proprietary. I wouldn't think so, unless the iMac has outputs for both the proprietary pro speakers and any regular speakers that a user would attach. Maybe this is the case, though
