Well I'm getting sick of my superdrive spitting out perfectly good CDs and i could use the extra speed so I ordered a new SuperDrive from OWC. While I have it open I would like to add 512 MB of RAM and a new hard drive. What is the quietest hard drive I could get? Best RAM? Keep in mind I am on a fairly tight budget, I just want to squeeze another 6 months out of the machine.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Agreed. Crucial is the best. As for a hard drive, maybe check OWC for that too?

I already got the SuperDrive so yes I am going to crack it open. I actually just won another one on ebay that is missing the optical, hard drive and memory so I'll be cracking that open too. I looked at some instructions on-line and it doesn't look impossible well worth the money and space saved I think. It will make a good project.

So no opinions on the quietest drive? I want something around 160 or so.

If it's the first 15" 800 MHz model then you can't get a 160 GB drive. You don't have LBA.

Oh yeah that's right. 137 is the max right?

EDIT: It's the 17" 800 if that makes any difference

for the RAM crucial, they have good quality ram and are quite cheap too...
Crucial is excellent RAM, but they are in no way cheap. They are generally very, very expensive. Check out DataMem.com for very good RAM and much better prices.
