iMac g5 Black Screen help please

Got me a Second Hand iMac g5 with OSX 10.6 on
Screen is black.
I changed Power Cable = no Result seen
i opened and a thinny Cable from hard drive were not connected. I had to remove the Ram to do that,but no Result
i opened again and found another thinny Cable from Broadband Socked comming out. I connected it but nothing happening
i opened again with all Leads removed. I removed the Battery inside,pushed after 2 Hour such small Button inside,put Battery in Place,switched on and nothing happened.
i pressed the power-Button twice,and on second Time the Screen went White and Fan blow as Hell,but stuck on that.
I switched off and on and it was Black again.
I disconnected the Lead and switched on after 5 Hour and nothing happens
I removed Battery again,pushed after 2 Hour thinny black button inside and nothing when started
With nothing happened i always mean "The screen is black",but the Start sound is and i hear a little Fan,and Keyboard reactes with Light on keyboard and with Ping on Computer if i push some Buttons.Mouse has light on
Well. seems Screen works.
I did not get the Software.
It is Snow leopard on but i don't know if re-installing would help or if i need the Pack for 3150.- or what it cost.
I also don't know if not Video-Card or logic board fails

you cannot run/install snow leopard on a iMac G5 , because snow leopard does not run on PPC Mac's,
but as you say it does , its not a iMac G5 its a intel iMac core duo (the outside case is the same )
reinstalling might help ,snow leopard cost £25 , but i doubt it , the first generation iMac core duos are now 4 years old and its not unusual on 4 year old iMac's for developing problems with logicboard, GPU, PSU, and display (at least that are the parts which had been fitted new when i bought mine within the last weeks of apple care ( mines a 2006 model but shipped for unknown reason in 2007 and was not a refurbished model)

so if you go and get a snow leopard retail disc for it and reinstalling /repairing permissions does not bring a result , its off to get the iMac to apple and ask about spare parts

i got said Snow Leopard would work with instaling Roseta which is a Translations software,leting SL thinking it installs on a Intel,but not all features are availible.
Well,now. Found a Lable "2004" inside and two stickers from Apple Workshop.
Capacitors looks good to me. found a Page,showing how to replace the Capacitors.Seems somethings for Winter Days,when you can't go out for days due Snow and Ice.But,is it that?

hm no rosetta is for the opposite , its for intel Mac's running snow leopard to be able to run apps which had been made for ppc Mac's

and black screen could be the capacitors on the logicboard ,or the inverter board or the display itself
anyway if there are still the original capacitors inside its time to replace them (dont forget the couple capacitors in the PSU and be careful not to electrocute yourself)

yes they are ok at iexterme repairs ,fair prices and they give, if you get the capacitors replaced by them and send the whole iMac to them , 1 year warranty!! on their work and they test the iMac before they send it back to you ,but you are looking at ~£170 inclusive VAT, without the postage cost , but you have to see that its not a 5 minute job on the iMac to replace the capacitors and test it so the price is justified and you got a working iMac again which will last the next years to come ....and most important they really DO replace ALL capacitors, not just send you the bill for the work like some on ebay

at the end of the day its up to you , in the condition your iMac is now you will get about £100 for it , and spending about £200 incl postage is still quiet a lot
