iMac G5 - DVD writer doesn't write, replacement? Since Apple support are useless

Bought exactly a year ago, depsite calling within warranty I HAVE to take to to an Apple repair centre - which is over an hour away for me and I have no form of transport. Utterly moronic system, apparently it's the same situation if I buy online too, they simply won't send out a courier unless I have APC (£150! Sod off!).

So how much will a DVD writer (slot loading obviously) cost for my iMac G5 (2Ghz etc etc) and where from?

I don't know where you live so obviously can't give great advice on good stores, but I'd check eBay for this sort of thing. You might find a good drive and you'll get an indication of their prices. :)
 
Checked eBay and couldn't find owt! In the UK btw. :)

Anyone else got any help for poor Adamo?
