I got my imac back on Monday from the apple store (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/130384/) and ever since then the fans seem to be constantly running at the same speed. It never gets quiet, and sometimes it even gets a little louder. Could the repair have affected this? Or did I just get used to my pc laptop again? I used it for two weeks and it was much quieter than this.

Or maybe I'm just paranoid now?

When I first turn on the machine they will hum, but then after I open up a couple programs (AIM, iTunes, Safari) they kick up and don't seem to slow back down, even when I quit the programs.

Actually my rev A 17'' iMac G5 gives me a nice alternative to Activity Moniter and others: nothing fancy: slow hum; Photoshop (one at a time): little louder; 18 huge applications running at the same time and rendering something: FULL BLAST!
I kinda like it.

My iMac 20" is quiet as a mouse, I never hear my fan at all. I cant even tell the darn thing is running unless I look at the standby light.

Not when it's sleeping, when it's running, unless you're talking about the screen shutting down...
BTW, is there any way to have the screen turn off manually, like set it to a function key or the power key in the back? Or is the only way to set it to one minute and wait for that minute?

My house!
My 20" iMac G5 is loud to me. Its a humm when it starts up, but after that its fairly loud. My CPU temps are always around 140-150 with the settings on Automatic, and 150-160+ when the settings are set to Highest. My fans never seem to go back to normal after cooling down. My iMac was extremely quiet when I first got it about 2 months ago, but now its too loud for me. I'm strongly considering selling it for a 15" or 17" PowerBook.

What seems to get really hot is the powersupply in mine. I've seen many reports of pushing, or even spewing capacitors on iMac G5's. I hope mine doesn't start doing that....

I did reset the nvram and it was back to the way its supposed to be, but after it got hot again all the noise came back. I shouldn't have to reset the nvram and then press the lower button on the logicboard everytime it gets hot.

Other than that, its an awsome computer. It has a beautiful screen, more than enough power for me, and its a real space saver. It also looks great, especially sitting on my glass corner desk. I must also say that Tiger absolutely flies on this. Its twice as fast as Panther was.
